Blackpool 10 - Oldham 44
Oldham coach Steve Deakin was
delighted with his players, this was fourth straight
win and the third in 8 days.
Oldham led 18 -0 after three tries in the opening
quarter and ultimately ran in eight tries, with
stand off, Neil Roden, scoring a hat-trick while
Lucas Onyango claimed a brace.
Having dominated the first quarter and the result
was in little doubt from the moment James Coyle sent
Danny Halliwell over for the opening try in the
fifth minute. Roden then burst over from close range
and Simon Hoyle breezed over on the left just two
minutes later.
Blackpool replacement, Andy Wallace, was sin-binned
in the 26th minute and Oldham made the Panthers pay
two minutes later, with replacement hooker Matty
Brooks ushering Onyango in on the right. Mick Nanyn
burst through another gap on the left to maintain
Oldham’s dominance, before kicking one of his six
goals.
Blackpool responded well with Matt Ashe kicking a
40-20 early in the second half, although Oldham
stood firm. John clough then just failed to reach
Ashe’s grubber kick, but following another Ashe
kick, Blackpool swept the ball right for Johnny
Leather to cross.
Oldham hit straight back with Roden charging over on
the left while Onyango crossed following Roden’s
break.
Blackpool cut the deficit again with David Llewellyn
sending Damien Munroe over, although Roden exchanged
passes with Paul O’Connor to complete the scoring.
Although Panthers only lost the second half 14 – 10,
coach Martin Crompton has vowed to taqke action and
will be looking to make several changes in personnel
over the coming days.
